WECCAN is our collaborative action network of community members focused on Kindergarten Readiness.

Beginning November, 2017, team members conducted a Data Walk related to factors critical to Kindergarten Readiness identified in their 2016 Report  and the community flyer below.

Factors were organized under categories onto several posters showing local data on children’s health, social emotional well being, stability at home, food security, and access to high quality preschools.  The purpose of the activity was to identify population level outcomes. The group identified two outcomes equally critical to kindergarten readiness:

  1. All children are healthy and kindergarten ready
  2. All families are healthy with opportunities to thrive.

Our K-readiness team developed an action plan to increase Kindergarten readiness across 3 key areas:

  1. Strong family support early in life (Prenatal to Age 3) through our recent Pritzker Foundation planning grant
  2. A healthy start to life
  3. Access to quality early learning environments.
